Competition Preparation
Competition Preparation - This program is modeled after prestigious programs at conservatories in Europe, and prominent music schools on the East Coast. It is particularly important for those who are interested in competitions, young artist festivals (such as the Chopin Festival, the Seattle Young Artists' Festival), adjudication (Royal Conservatory of Music or London systems, for example), and auditions. This is the recommended program for children and young adults who want to prepare for a college program in music or a competition or for those who would like a more thorough musical training than what private lessons alone can provide. Student requirements and benefits include:

a) Two private lessons per week of a duration at teacher's discretion or recommendation (one lesson of longer duration may be selected with teacher recommendation).

b) Semi-annual examinations before a hearing committee of at least three faculty members. Written evaluations will be given by the committee and grading is optional.

c) Students will be given a comprehensive curriculum with a strong emphasis on technique and a diverse repertoire covering all style periods. This program of study will be supplied by the teacher and will encompass a period of completion set for the current academic year (September through June).

d) Participation in at least three student recitals per year. Memorization is required.

e) Students are required to attend at least two faculty recitals per year and two outside recitals per year (of classical programs).

f) The Student's weekly work will be evaluated by his/her private teacher on a weekly basis for the benefit of the student and parents to gauge progress towards the year's goals.

g) Students will have an opportunity to audition for a final recital and perform along with faculty at a higher-level recital hall. The location is to be announced later in the academic year.

h) At the end of the year, upon successful completion of his/her requirements, he/she will be given a certificate of completion. A final grade is optional.
