Ms. Sachi Patricia Hirakouji, piano, BM, MM, DMA (candidate)
Sachi Patricia Hirakouji is an American-born Japanese pianist who is a candidate for the DMA(Doctor of Musical Arts) degree in piano performance at the University of Washington, studying with Professor Patricia Michaelian. After completing her Bachelor of Music in piano performance at the Kunitachi College of Music in Tokyo, Ms. Hirakouji worked as a certified piano teacher for YAMAHA, and continued her studies at the University of Hawaii, where she received her Master of Music degree in piano performance under Peter Coraggio. In addition to being an active chamber musician, she has performed as a featured soloist with the University of Hawaii Symphony Orchestra, and toured the neighboring islands with the Hawaii Opera Theater. In Washington, Ms. Hirakouji has performed with the University of Washington Symphony Orchestra and South Shore Chamber Orchestra, and this year, she has been invited to perform as a featured soloist at the Annas Bay Music Festival in Union, Washington. Her Master Class appearances include with Paul Badura-Skoda, Hiroko Nakamura, Carla Giudici and Frank Heneghan. Miss Hirakouji is currently a faculty member of the Academy of Music Northwest where she teaches piano ensemble and piano trio, and is a choir accompanist for the University Temple United Methodist Church in Seattle.
Ms. Hirakouji has eleven years of teaching experience. In addition to her extensive studies at the musical institutions, she holds a YAMAHA Teaching Certificate and a YAMAHA Adult-Group Teaching Certificate, and also a teaching certificate in music in Japan. She has taught piano lessons to students from four-year-old to adults, and her passion for music has been inspiring, especially to many young students. Many of them received numerous prizes and awards in national auditions.
