Mark Stevens’ expertise in piano performance ranges from traditional piano repertoire to contemporary music and jazz. He has been awarded various prizes throughout his performing and academic career, including gold and silver medals in the 20th-Century Piano Division at Musicfest Northwest, prizewinner of the Nebraska MTNA Young Artist Competition, finalist in the Chiara String Quartet competition, as well as named the Presser Scholar of Whitworth University, recipient of the Graduate Teaching Assistantship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and receiver of the Student Achievement Recognition Award from the MTNA for academic achievement, successful teaching experience, and demonstrated leadership abilities.
Mark Stevens graduated Magna Cum Laude from Whitworth University with a Bachelors degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy. While at Whitworth, he studied Classical and Jazz styles, performing with the premier Whitworth Jazz Ensemble as well as top auditioned Jazz combos. Mr. Stevens completed his Masters of Music degree in piano and pedagogy under the tutelage of Dr. Paul Barnes and Mark Clinton at UNL. Mr. Stevens also studied at the Bösendorfer International Piano Academy in Vienna, working with Ms. Krassimira Jordan and Dr. Timothy Ehlen. In addition to full-time teaching, Mark is an active soloist and chamber musician, performing a wide range of music, especially music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
