    “Try Before you Buy” Beginner Piano Class

    Details for summer intensive music programs at the Chopin Academy of Music are here! If you are looking for a quality intensive music program to strengthen your skills and meet new friends, the CAM has what you are looking for. The Chopin Academy offers several week-long sessions throughout the summer in piano and violin. Use the summer and become the best musician possible!

    “Try Before you Buy” Beginner Piano Class

    Aimed for beginners interested in piano with no prior experience, these week-long introductory courses for youngsters give a taste of piano lessons in small group classes. All materials are included as part of the class. Designed especially those with curiosity or interest in piano.

    Ages: 5 to 7 years old
    Dates: Tuesday through Thursday, July 12 – 15
    Time: Class 1 — 10:30 to 11:15 am; Class 2 — 11:30 to 12:15 pm
    Maximum # of Students: 4 per class
    Materials: all provided in the class
    Teachers: Dr. Ivona Kaminska and Dr. Christopher Bowlby
    Cost: $120 total for the entire four-session course

    Violin Camp

    A great way to get a start on the new academic year before auditions, this fun and intense weeklong violin camp for students age 9 and above includes ensemble and solo coaching with enlightening discussions on a variety of topics. A gala concert on the final day showcases students and their projects.

    Activities include:

    * Discussion of practice technique
    * Daily master classes
    * Music theory and history topics
    * “Tricks of the Trade” on strategizing for auditions
    * Private lessons
    * Small ensemble groups

    Students must have completed at least two years of private violin study. Applicants must include a link to an online video of a recent solo or small ensemble performance for placement with other students.

    Ages: age 9 and above
    Dates: July 18 – 22 from 9 to 3:30 pm
    Maximum # of Students: 16
    Materials: students must bring their violins and folding stands and music for any solo work they are currently studying
    Requirements: at least one ready or nearly-ready solo work
    Lunch: students must bring lunch money or a sack lunch
    Teachers: Mr. Samuel Byun and Mr. Miodrag Veselinovic
    Cost: $450 total for the entire weeklong camp

    Teen Piano Camp

    Immerse yourself in the exciting atmosphere of the Chopin Academy of Music at our Summer Piano Institute and become your best pianist this summer. Learn from highly-qualified Chopin Academy faculty members and engage with motivated and talented peers by creating new friendships this summer. A gala concert on the final day showcases students and their projects.

    Skills addressed and activities include:

    * Learning how to maximize your technical skills
    * Learning about stylistic periods and performance practice
    * Becoming a better listener through ensemble performance
    * Strengthening your memory skills through knowledge of theory
    * Learning the secrets of fluent sight-reading
    * Private lessons
    * Daily master classes

    Students must have completed at least three years of private piano study. Applicants must include a link to an online video of a recent solo performance for placement.

    Ages: ages 11 to 16
    Dates: August 8 – 12 from 9 to 3:30 pm
    Maximum # of Students: 10
    Materials: students must bring music scores for any works they are currently studying
    Requirements: at least one ready or nearly-ready solo work
    Lunch: students must bring lunch money or a sack lunch
    Teachers: Ms. Chelsea Bloomberg and Ms. Alexandra Tsirkel
    Cost: $450 total for the entire weeklong camp

    Pre-College Piano Camp

    For the most serious pianists who contemplate a major or minor focus in music studies during their future collegiate studies, or for those who wish a greater command of music from a theoretical and historical point of view, this intense camp serves as a crash-course to strengthen these oft-neglected skills.

    Activities include:

    * Keyboard skills — understanding cadences in all keys and keyboard harmony
    * Basic music theory topics
    * Music history topics
    * Advanced piano master classes

    Students must have completed at least eight years of private piano study and have a command of all 24 major and minor scales. Applicants must include a link to an online video of a recent solo performance for placement.

    Ages: ages 15 and above
    Dates: August 15 – 19, from 9 to 12 pm
    Maximum # of Students: 10
    Materials: students must bring pencils, notebooks, and music staff paper, as well as music scores for any works they are currently studying
    Requirements: thorough command of all 24 scales and significant performing experience
    Lunch: the camp finishes at noon, but water bottles and snacks are advisable
    Teachers: Dr. Ivona Kaminska and Dr. Christopher Bowlby
    Cost: $300 total for the entire weeklong camp
